FlockToMe is a newly launched app whereby members auto-follow each other based on interests. It’s a great concept for Twitter over random auto-following as presumably the followers that are picked up tweet about the same topics. They have a nice filter which makes suggestions of related keywords. For instance, typing in #discount brings up #discounttravel, #discountcodes, etc. The site posts some verbiage about not wanting spammers and claims to be banning users who have a large percent of unfollows, which is a bit big-brothery I’d say, but that’s an auto-feature.
Unfortunately, FlockToMe is “too good to be true” as it’s a bit of a spam device itself. There’s an automatic tweet which is sent out saying you’ve joined FlockToMe (this is an opt-out over at TweepMe) to connect with people on that user’s various keyword interests.
Here’s a snapshot of a FlockToMe Twitter search (note the beware post from one user amidst the auto-posts). From a glance-over, it appears most members are staying within interest guidelines. On the downside, the auto-spam might cause existing legitimate followers that you have to unfollow you.

The beta code is shaky, once they have your username (yet haven’t joined!), a cookie prevents you from canceling, but if you move forward, the auto-tweet is sent out. Anyway, someone should fix that, it’s a pain to delete their cookie.
Overall, it’s a cool idea, and the interface is clean, pretty tastefully designed — if they want to be successful, they should keep the topical auto-follow and have the auto-tweet be an opt-out or opt-in, or something.
